I am a reality TV junkie...Survivor, Bachelor, Biggest Loser, American Idol, even Duck Dynasty...love 'em all. I can't help it and I have no idea how to explain it. Before you start pointing fingers and nay-saying, let me tell you that reality TV can be educational and inspiring. How, you ask?
Lately I have been lacking the motivation to work out. It's too cold outside to get out and walk (or pretend to jog), so I have found myself skipping workouts altogether. It was during The Biggest Loser that I discovered a brilliant workout. You don't need any fancy workout equipment or cute workout clothes (for goodness sake you're in your own living room). So anyway, grab a deck of cards and assign a different exercise to each suit. Here are my assignments...
Heart = Jumping Jacks (they get your "heart" going)
Clubs = Push Ups (they look like an arm muscle)
Spades = Squats (they're a little bottom heavy)
Diamonds = Up-Downs (a.k.a. Cherry Pickers or Burpees) HATE THESE...I thought diamonds were a girls best friend.
After assigning each suit with an exercise, you're ready to get started. Flip over one card at a time...2 of clubs? You do 2 push-ups...9 of spades?, 9 squats...etc. Keep going until you've gone all the way through the deck.
The best part? You can do this while watching taped soap operas...yet, another one of my TV weaknesses.

Squat thrust= squating down and thrusting legs out to a plank or top push up position and then reversing to a standing position.
Burpee= squat thrust with a push up at the bottom and an explosive jump at the top.
Up downs= running in place and dropping to the floor then imediately exploding back up to running in place.
These terms are not interchangeable, but are three different exercises of varying difficulty. Hey, I don't make the rules. Deck of cards is a brutal work out especially when done for time, i.e. as fast as you can. Try doing 100 burpees in less than 8 minutes. Sounds simple enough and it's only 8 minutes, but this brings the suck.
Oh my, but you people need to get out more ofter ! LOL
