Book Recommendation
I recently finished The Kite Runner which I would not recommend. It was depressing and I disliked the main character. He was weak with no moral character. For whatever reason the next book I chose to read was A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author (call me optimistic or maybe a blockhead would be more accurate). A Thousand Splendid Suns was ha, one thousand times better. It's about a girl growing up in Afghanistan. It gave some insight into the culture and how stifled the people in that region of the world have been (especially women). It is a sad at times but the main character always perseveres with a sense of hope for what lies ahead (unlike The Kite Runner). It was excellent!

You must have the same reading list as my sister because she recently told me about those books. I, however, cannot honestly remember the last time I read a book with more than 30 pages and no pictures!
Ya, mom gave me the kite runner to read. I agree with you, didn't like it. It was a well written book but the story was depressing. Actually by the end Iwas laughing, I mean it was like the author created characters to see how many messed up things he could do to them. The main character should have died a horrible death.
Read The Kite Runner about 3-4 months ago and it was hard to get into; but, was a sad story about life over there. The main guy wasn't great and failed at some things; but that's being human...not defending him.
Picked up the Thousand Splendid Suns and just gave up before even opening it because I thought it would be more doom and gloom...so I may have to go check it back out.
Personally, give me a good old spy/CIA/mystery or junky romance as I like reading to be easy and not have to study as I go along!!
The new Jack Reacher book comes out June 4th. Also check out Jeff Lindsey's, Dexter novels. He's a crime scene investigator and a serial killer who hunts down serial killers. They are written with kind of a humorous undertone. I read the 1st and starting the 2nd. It's wierd cuz you start liking the main character and rooting for him even though he's a sociopath.
i'm still confused and wondering.....BS is reading books without pictures??? Or is it the Cliffs Notes? My guess is this Jeff Reacher charactor writes comic books???
I know it's hard to believe I read; brains, looks, and athletic ability, I'm truly a triple threat. Hide your daughters cuz I'm coming to town. By the way Jack reacher is the character not the author. I think it's time you put down the hair gel and cracked a book pretty boy.
Lee Child is the author; yes, I also am cursed with a brain, body, and face that causes women to swoon (that means faint DS since you don't read). I don't mean to be condescending (that means "talk down to" :-)). Even worse, it appears I have passed on my curse to my three sons--they seem to have girls on them like ticks on a hounddog . . . .
Ok--so really the first part about Lee Child is the only important part of this whole discourse (that means discussion DS).
Guess I should be working instead of kibitzing--(that means...never mind)!
I think you missed the topic of the dialogue between ds and myself. The subject was that ds couldn't believe that I DO READ. The only word I needed clarifacation on was the kibble and bits one and you neglected to define it. I'm not sure but it sounded like you compared women to ticks in your comment. That's such a shame to think you hold women in such a low regard, and to think you are married to my precious sister.
