Can You Imagine?

Can you imagine being a teenager and your parents come home one day and say, "Pack up your belongings, we're moving to another country."  In this new country, you barely understand the language and cannot speak it at all.

At school today, the junior class logged into the computers to take an online writing assessment.  This is a mandatory state test that all student in the junior class are required to take.  One of our math teachers walked a student to the test site.  As the student entered the site, the teacher approached the test administrator and said, "She speaks NO, absolutely NO english".

Now, I don't know anything about this family...illegal, legal?  Who knows?  This isn't meant to be a political post.  Mostly, I couldn't stop thinking about this poor high school girl who can't understand her teacher, can barely do her schoolwork, and can't make friends due to the language barrier.  What a lonely place that must be.

I guess this is a perfect illustration on perception. You see a girl shut off from the world and feel empathy. I see a girl with a legitimate excuse for not having to talk to people and feel envy.
